Zimbabwe’s Parliament is now being called a crime scene. This is because many Members of Parliament (MPs) have stopped working for the people. Instead, they are now fighting to protect President Emmerson Mnangagwa — not because of love or loyalty, but because of land and money. There are reports that Mnangagwa is facing threats of impeachment. That means he could lose his job if Parliament decides he has failed the people or broken the law.

But instead of MPs doing their job fairly, it looks like they are being paid to protect him. A meeting in Mabelreign, Harare has shocked the nation. Reports say that some MPs were given free land — called stands — so that they would vote against removing Mnangagwa from power.

The Ministry of Local Government has now confirmed this. Just two days ago, they gave away 70 stands to MPs. These stands were in three areas: 15 in Killarney, Goromonzi; 15 in Penrose, Zvimba; and a shocking 40 in Mabelreign, Harare. Many people believe the Mabelreign meeting was the place where the deal was made to protect Mnangagwa.

The Ministry tried to defend the move. They said giving stands to MPs is nothing new. They called it a “non-monetary benefit,” saying it helps MPs have a place to live. The government claims this programme started in 2013 and that MPs from past Parliaments also received land. According to them, Goromonzi got 188 stands, Bulawayo got 49, Chiredzi 12, Kadoma 9, and Beit Bridge 5.

They also say they are doing the same for war veterans, youths, women, and civil servants. But Zimbabweans are not buying this story. The truth is in the timing — the stands were given just as impeachment talks began. That makes it hard to believe this is just about housing. To many people, this looks and smells like a bribe.

The National Democratic Working Group, led by Job Sikhala, has called Parliament a crime scene. They say the MPs have betrayed the people. They believe the stands were given so that MPs will not vote to remove Mnangagwa. Instead of being watchdogs of the people, MPs have become bodyguards for the president — and all it took was free land.

This has caused great anger across the country. Ordinary people are struggling to survive. They cannot afford to buy land. Many are homeless or living in poor conditions. But MPs, who already have big salaries and many benefits, are now getting free land as well. The injustice is painful to see.

This scandal has broken trust. MPs are supposed to represent the people, but it seems they only care about themselves and their own power. While Zimbabwe suffers, Parliament is busy cutting secret deals to protect one man.

The biggest question now is what happens next. Will the MPs vote to save Mnangagwa because of the stands? Or will they stand with the people and vote based on truth and justice?

One thing is clear: Zimbabweans are watching. The giving of stands is no longer just about helping MPs find homes. It is about bribery, corruption, and the future of our country. If Parliament continues down this road, it will lose all its respect. And the people will not forget.

  1. This article is full of propaganda. MPs getting land is legal and has been happening since 2013 — stop twisting facts to attack the President. There is no scandal here. Only bitter opposition figures who can’t get into power are crying foul over normal government benefits.

  2. People need to stop listening to Job Sikhala and his gang. They want chaos, not solutions. The President is being targeted unfairly. What’s wrong with rewarding MPs for their service? The land allocations are fair and transparent. This is just more fake outrage.
