The ruling Zanu PF party in Zimbabwe is falling apart. The fight inside the party is no longer a secret. President Emmerson Mnangagwa is now openly attacking his rivals, especially Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga. Speaking at a politburo meeting in Harare, Mnangagwa called his enemies “wolves in sheep’s clothing.” This shows how deep the division inside Zanu PF has become.

Chiwenga is not just any rival. He is backed by powerful people in the military. His group inside Zanu PF has been growing stronger. Even war veterans — who used to be some of the strongest supporters of Zanu PF — have turned against Mnangagwa. They are now saying that he has failed the country and must step down. These are not small words. These are signs of a serious fight for power.

Mnangagwa used his speech to try and show that he is the true leader of Zanu PF. He said that real members of the party must be loyal all the time. “Loyal members are Zanu PF by day and Zanu PF by night,” he said. But these words sound empty to many people. The country is in deep trouble. Prices are high. Jobs are hard to find. The hospitals are broken. The police and army are being used to beat people instead of protecting them. People are tired and angry.

Chiwenga’s side is not keeping quiet. They believe Mnangagwa has become a burden. They think he has failed and must be replaced. After all, it was Chiwenga who helped Mnangagwa rise to power in the 2017 coup that removed Robert Mugabe. But now, Chiwenga and his group believe it is their turn to lead. They think Mnangagwa is trying to stay too long.

Even war veterans, who helped bring Zanu PF into power in the first place, are now against Mnangagwa. This shows that his support is falling fast. He no longer controls the party the way he used to. His hold on power is becoming weak.

Mnangagwa is now trying to use ideology to fix the problem. He wants members to follow the Chitepo School of Ideology, which teaches party values. But this will not solve anything. People are not fighting over ideas. They are fighting over power. Zanu PF is no longer about building a better Zimbabwe. It is now about who gets to be in charge and who gets the money.

While these men fight each other, the people of Zimbabwe continue to suffer. The cost of living is too high. The streets are full of vendors trying to survive. Young people have no future. Doctors, teachers, and civil servants are poorly paid. The police arrest people for speaking out. Nothing is working. Yet those in power are busy fighting each other instead of fixing the country.

What is happening in Zanu PF shows that the party is breaking from the inside. Mnangagwa may win this fight, or Chiwenga might take over. But no matter who wins, Zanu PF has lost its way. It is no longer a party with a plan for Zimbabwe. It is a party full of power-hungry men chasing after their own interests.

This is the biggest threat Zanu PF has faced — and it is not coming from the opposition. It is coming from inside its own house. The party that once used violence and fear to stay in power is now eating itself. The cracks are wide. The fall may be near. And the people are watching.

  1. This article is just wishful thinking from opposition sympathizers. ZANU PF is strong and united behind President Mnangagwa. Stop spreading fake news and fueling division. The President’s words were about discipline and loyalty, nothing more.

  2. Every party has internal debates. That doesn’t mean collapse. Only enemies of progress want to see ZANU PF fall. You people keep dreaming of a ZANU PF breakup, but we’re still here, still leading, and still winning elections. Find a new script.
